Alliant Managed Services (AMS)
Tapeless Backup and Restoration (TBR)

The AMS Tapeless Backup and Recovery (TBR) service provides Clients with a mechanism to assure that their production servers are backed up, and that this data is easily recoverable.  The AMS TBR service is a single agent, tapeless solution which removes the complexities associated with traditional tape backup approaches, while continuing to meet the requirements for recoverability and off-site storage.
The AMS TBR solution consists of three logical components:

  1. TBR Manager Software.  The TBR Manager is installed onto a single desktop or server in the Client’s LAN.  This software controls the automated backups on all designated servers without additional software having to be installed on them.
  2. TBR LocalStore.  The TBR LocalStore serves as a repository for local copies of saved data.  There are two advantages to the TBR LocalStore: 1) data for recovery is always available at LAN speeds, if needed; and 2) it gives Clients a backup repository for data that is not off-site.
  3. TBR CloudStore.  The TBR CloudStore serves as a repository for remote copies of saved data stored at highly secure, highly available data centers.

The backup process is configurable for each device.  Backup frequency, directory scope and Local/CloudStore can all be specified independently.  Once configured, the AMS TBR will assure that the backup process is performed on schedule and completing successfully.  Client’s data will be compressed and encrypted so the data is always secure.

When data recovery becomes necessary, both full restore and granular restoration options (individual files or individual messages) are supported.  The restoration process is managed through a web GUI and requires no manual intervention for requesting, locating or mounting tapes.

AMS TBR includes data backup and restoration with 30 daily versions per month and a 7-year retention period, providing regulatory and operational policy compliance as well as a key element of Disaster Recovery for the following data stores:

  • Application Data
  • E-mail Data (recoverable at the message level)
  • Personal Computer and Client data (when synchronized to the LAN central user server).
  • Mission critical/Special retention needs data (onsite backup for LAN speed recovery available)
  • Mission critical/Special applications (onsite backup for LAN speed recovery available)
