Philosophy - Management Style
At Alliant Technologies, the most effective way to manage
highly intelligent people is to mentor and set guidelines for our
common goals. We have charged management with the following five
responsibilities:
Set the direction - gain consensus from the employees to define
their individual goals. Use these as a foundation to build a singular,
well-articulated set of long term goals.
Provide vision - help to choose the paths to these goals. Provide
navigation through the course ahead. Be flexible as the course bends.
Nurture and mature new ideas - Throughout the organization,
managers must be the people who most actively collect information, are
the catalysts for its redistribution, actively add to its value,
receive new ideas from the employees and help these ideas become
widely implemented and accepted.
Provide enforcement of the guiding principles - by being the ones
who focus those principles back on the daily activities to test their
integrity.
Be role models - exhibit trust, loyalty, integrity, perseverance
and creativity with a solid work ethic, which the company then asks in
return from every employee.
The best management is the effective empowerment and mentoring of
as many of the individuals in the company as possible. In an
organization where people are challenged to develop and excel, we
create the best environment to empower people. Empowering capable
staff to make decisions and implement change means that they can
resolve problems and prevent failures up front.
